Are Organic Baby Clothes Worth It?

Many parents nowadays prefer to buy organic cotton clothing for their babies. But why?

At Jake + Co, we love organic clothing, and these are some of the reasons why:

  1. Organic cotton is a safe option for sensitive skin. In the early stages of life, a baby’s skin is extremely sensitive and more porous than an adults skin. Organic cotton means that the cotton is grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and genetically modified organisms. The by-products are therefore free from all nasties that may be absorbed into a babies soft and vulnerable skin. This is excellent news for children who suffer from eczema and other skin conditions.

  2. Organic cotton is durable. Organic cotton is just as sturdy and durable as conventional cotton. Often it is farmed with more consideration, so it has a higher output. You can wash organic cotton clothing as many times as you would like without them falling apart. Because organic cotton clothing is made from a natural fibre, it means that it is suitable to wear in all four seasons which is an absolute bonus. Babies are not able to regulate their body temperature the way that older children and adults can, so it is important to have adaptable and comfortable clothing options. The weave effect of cotton clothing has a two fold effect. In warmer weather it helps to prevent overheating and keeps your baby cool and comfortable. In cooler weather organic cotton is great for layering to help keep your baby nice and cosy.

  3. Organic cotton is environmentally friendly. The organic cotton farming reduces environmental stress by requiring farmers to detoxify the land when cultivating their crops. They use naturally beneficial practices such as crop rotation and mechanical weed removal, and do not use fungicides on any of their plants. To be certified as organic cotton, it cannot be farmed using any artificial matter at all, which results in fewer greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere.

It is entirely up to you whether you include organic cotton clothing in your babies’ wardrobe, but by having a few staple pieces, it will ensure your babies’ precious skin is clothed in the safest of products. Organic cotton is slightly more expensive, but will translate into a high-quality product and fewer purchases in the long term.

It is important to wash all clothes, including organic cotton, before dressing your baby in them. This will eliminate any lasting residue or harmful irritants, and protect your babies skin as much as possible. The Jake + Co organic cotton range includes long and short sleeve rompers, bodysuits, onesies socks and more. Our products are GOTS certified and have been selected carefully.

We would love for you to browse the Jake + Co collection for the most unique and quality baby products. Whether you are seeking a gift for a baby shower, for a new Mum to be, or to treat your own special bundle of joy, we have a wide range of gorgeous baby products to suit all occasions.
